Having seen it for myself, I’m torn between three and five stars. On the whole, the hotel is really great. The pools are absolutely stunning. The outdoor pool in the garden, in particular, is fantastic for children – it’s a proper paradise as there’s a huge playground and a small indoor play area too. The sauna is adequate too, though it’s very, very small – it can’t fit more than three people in there. I actually find that a bit of a risk given its size. The reason I’ve only given three stars for the room is simply because it was a right mess and really not cosy at all. There was an empty picture frame next to the TV, which looked completely out of place and ugly. It was also exceptionally dark. There was a constant humming noise at night, which I assume was a tumble dryer running 24 hours a day – something I found very annoying, as it really ought to be completely quiet given that you’re right in the middle of the mountains.

The hotel is in a quiet yet very central location. We’d booked a family room, which was wonderful. A brilliant breakfast with everything you could wish for. Very friendly staff. The hotel is brilliant. Everything was fantastic. The most important thing for me was that pets are allowed. I have pets myself, but I didn’t bring them with me on this trip. However, it was very important to me that the hotel was pet-friendly. I’ll definitely be back!

A lovely place to spend a week, going for walks and enjoying the hotel’s swimming pools and sauna. The breakfast was excellent. The restaurant had switched to a small, straightforward menu – which suited us down to the ground.

Very friendly staff and a very good breakfast. Dogs are allowed in the hotel; we were aware of this and found it acceptable. Unfortunately, there are owners who let their dogs sit at the table with them (and even feed them there) and walk them on the premises. That’s where my love for animals ends, I’m afraid.

We were looking for a short, spontaneous break in and around Berchtesgaden and ended up staying with the Stoll family at the Alpina. As a family of five, it’s always a bit of a challenge to find accommodation. But here we were looked after brilliantly. There was more than enough for the kids. The hotel’s location was just perfect. The room was perfectly adequate for us and there was plenty of space. After all, this isn’t a typical hotel holiday. From the phone call and service to the breakfast and the accommodation itself, we can say that we’d highly recommend it in every respect. The location (an hour’s walk from Königssee) and the proximity to Salzburg certainly suited us. We were happy 👍👍👍
