Once a retreat was to be created with the National Park of Nature, today it fulfills numerous tasks relating to nature conservation, research, recreation and education. The nature protection zone with around 21.000 hectares is an untouched piece of nature in which humans do not intervene.
In this way, a unique flora and fauna was able to regain its place. A network of over 250 kilometers of hiking trails and climbs makes the national park a unique recreational area. The Alpine National Park is a Unesco Biosphere Reserve.
Framed by mighty rock faces, it rests in one of the most impressive landscapes in Germany - emerald green and quiet - in the middle of the Berchtesgaden National Park. The lake, embedded like a fjord, is eight kilometers long, up to 1,2 kilometers wide and lies 602 meters above sea level. With a maximum water depth of 192 meters, the water of the Königsee remains relatively cold even in midsummer.
Leave the hustle and bustle and noise on land and glide gently across the lake in one of the noiseless electric boats of the Königssee fleet. Here, in the encounter with water, mountains and sky, heart and mind open up.
St. Bartholomä, the landmark of the Königsee, can only be reached by boat. The world-famous pilgrimage church, whose first components from the 12th century. originate, is picturesquely on a peninsula. Next to it is the former hunting lodge, which today serves as an idyllic inn.
In Schönau a. Königssee is handled very carefully with the valuable legacy of the past. The historic hipped roof ship huts are just a sign of this. Shipping on the Königsseeschiffahrt was already extremely progressive in 1909 and people were already thinking about the environment back then. Since then, it has been possible to navigate the Königssee with electric motor boats, which to this day glide contemplatively over the lake.
On an excursion through the history of the earth you will receive exciting information that you will not only experience in the course of the salt journey through time, but will also experience it with all your senses through effective productions in the realm of fantasy.

A historical vantage point high above the Berchtesgadener Land: from the Kehlsteinhaus, visitors can enjoy an overwhelming panoramic view of up to 200 kilometers. It has been managed by the Berchtesgaden-Königssee tourist region since 1960 and run as a mountain restaurant by private tenants.
The road from the Kehlstein car park to Obersalzberg is unique in the world in terms of its structural characteristics. The enormous difference in altitude is overcome with just one bend, with the steep north-west side of the Kehlstein being crossed twice. In 1952, Kehlsteinstrasse was closed to private traffic and scheduled services to the Kehlstein car park were set up.
The way from the parking lot to the Kehlsteinhaus turns out to be a very special experience: A tunnel lined with natural stone leads 124 meters through the rock massif to a splendid, brass-clad elevator. In just 41 seconds, this travels a further 124 meters up into the interior of the Kehlsteinhaus.
From Stoll's Hotel Alpina, you can drive to Salzburg, the world-famous festival city, in around 25 minutes. Here you have the opportunity to get to know the small but fine Mozart city of Salzburg with its many elegant shops, squares, churches and castles. Here you will also find a number of museums worth seeing, for example the newly built Museum of Modernism on the Mönchsberg or the House of Nature, which also appeals to little guests.
Not much further away you will find some beautifully situated, romantic lakes on the Austrian side, such as Mondsee, Wallersee or Fuschlsee. All these places can be easily reached within a day, for example with our friend, the bus operator Schwaiger, who not only makes day trips there, so that you can relax and leave your car in the garage.
