Dreamlike Hiking trails lead straight from Stoll’s Alpina out into the impressive The mountain landscape of Berchtesgaden.
Short tours from the Alpina are suitable for beginners, for example in the direction of „Greenstone“ with its hut, which is open in summer, or a hike to the „Picturesque circular hiking trail“ at the world-famous „Königssee„, where you can marvel at one of the most beautiful views. A further selection of hiking trails is available on site from our trained hotel staff.
For hiking enthusiasts or more experienced holidaymakers, slightly longer tours from the Alpina are suitable, for example towards the mountain massif „Watzmann“. This mountain with its 2 peaks is the figurehead of Berchtesgaden and with a height of 2713 metres is the highest mountain entirely on German soil. The tour takes about 3 1/2 hours from the hotel up to the Watzmannhaus. From there you can of course hike even further. However, this should only be attempted with trained staff.
In addition, a tour on the high-altitude hiking trail is highly recommended (Brandkopf/Vorderbrand/Brüggenlehen/Carl-von-Linde-Weg).

The Berchtesgadener Land offers an extensive network of walking trails to suit all levels, from leisurely valley walks to alpine mountain hikes. Stoll’s Hotel Alpina serves as the ideal starting point for most of these walks. Among the most popular and scenic routes are:
For families and connoisseurs: The spectacular paths through the Wimbachklamm gorge or the Almbachklamm gorge.
For panoramic viewfinders: The brine pipeline path with a marvellous view over the valley.
For sporty hikers: Tours in the national park, such as the hike to the Kärlingerhaus (Funtensee) or up the Grünstein.
The most famous waterfall directly on the Königssee is the Schrainbach Falls, which plunges majestically into the lake. The best way to reach it is to take the electric boat to the St. Bartholomä stop and from there take a scenic hike of just under an hour (towards Kärlingerhaus).
Important note: If you are referring to the „Königsbachfall“ (known from social media for its natural pools): The pools of this waterfall are currently not allowed to be entered for nature conservation reasons. The safe and legal path there is closed, which is why we recommend the beautiful hike to the Schrainbach Falls or the Röthbach Falls (behind the Obersee) instead.
There are marvellous hikes around the Königssee that can be perfectly combined with a boat trip. As the lake is largely lined with steep rock faces, there is no path that leads completely around the lake. The most beautiful tours are
Malerwinkel circular route: An easy, short walk (approx. 20-30 minutes) from the lake shore with the famous postcard view of the lake.
Raven wall: A moderate extension of the Malerwinkel trail that rewards you with an even more spectacular panoramic view.
Obersee & Röthbach Falls: After a boat trip to the Salet terminus, you hike flat along the picturesque Obersee to the Fischunkelalm and on to the Röthbach Falls, the highest waterfall in Germany.
The Jenner (1,874 m) is considered the most scenic mountain in Berchtesgadener Land and offers hikes for all fitness levels - also thanks to the modern Jennerbahn railway.
Easy tour (with railway support): Take the Jennerbahn cable car to the mountain station. From there, it's just a short, well-maintained walk to the summit cross with a view of the Königssee.
Medium-difficulty tour (Schneibstein): From the Jenner mountain station, you hike via the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus to the Schneibstein, which is considered the easiest two-thousand metre peak in the Berchtesgaden Alps.
Demanding tour (valley descent): Start from the summit and hike across scenic mountain pastures (such as the Königsbachalm) down into the valley.
The Watzmann is the region's landmark and offers tours ranging from moderately difficult mountain hikes to extremely challenging alpine routes.
To the Watzmannhaus (medium difficulty): This tour (start at the Wimbachbrücke car park) can be completed in one day by experienced hikers. At the top, the Watzmannhaus awaits you at 1,930 metres above sea level with a magnificent view.
Watzmann-Hocheck (demanding): If you continue from the Watzmannhaus to the first summit, the Hocheck (2,651 m), you enter alpine terrain. Surefootedness and a head for heights are essential here.
Watzmann crossing (for experts only): The ridge crossing over all three peaks is one of the most famous alpine tours in Germany and is reserved for absolute professionals with climbing experience and the appropriate equipment.
